Some new Cp2MX2 (M = UIV; ThIV) compounds, stable towards ligand redistribution, have been synthesized by using very bulky X-ligands such as N,N'-di-p-tolyltriazenide (triaz) and N,N'-di-p-tolylformamide (form).Whereas Cp2Th(NEt)2 undergoes protolysis by Htriaz in refluxing toluene to give Cp2Th(triaz)2, under the same conditions there is no protolysis by Hform.A suggested coordination mode of the ligands around the central ions of the Cp2UX2 (X triaz; form) and Cp2Th(triaz)2 is based on the 1H NMR and mass spectrometric adta.
