Repeated deprotonation and alkylation of <(η⁵-C5H5)Fe(PPh3)(CO)(=cyclo)>+ allows the stereoselective synthesis of quaternary carbon centres to be achieved with decomplexation leading to 2,2-dialkylbutyrolactones.
