The replacement of the trans-CO group by Br(1-) in cationic <(CO)5W=C=N=CR2>AlBr4 complexes causes a drastic change in the geometry of the CNCR2 ligand; the molecular structure of the phenyl-substituted product, trans-Br(CO)4W, is established by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
