Tungsten hexachloride (WCl₆) has been used for the halo-de-hydroxylation and dihalo-de-oxo-bisubstitution reactions of benzylic alcohols, benzaldehydes, acyloins, and epoxides to their chlorides, gem-dichlorides, vic-trichlorides, and vic-dichlorides respectively.
