Protons, even in trace amounts decrease the stability of phenyl(phenylazo)methyl hydroperoxide (1).The decomposition of (1) is more rapid in CCl4 than in CH3CN, owing to an additional reaction route in the former solvent.A mechanistic suggestion is presented.
