In particular the silica-based systems prepared under acidic
conditions were shown to be the most active, exhibiting higher
TOF in comparison to that of commercial Rh/C (5%). The denser
and bulkier silica structure generated under basic conditions (less
active catalytic system) incorporated less ionic liquid. A high level
of ionic liquid incorporation seems to be important in order to
guarantee stability for the nanoparticles.
