The dehydration mechanism of cadmium(II) formate dihydrate was investigated using X-ray diffraction, infrared absorption, thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis. The results obtained showed a stepwise water loss mechanism accompanied by strong endothermic peaks. A mechanism was proposed to explain the dehydration reaction.
