Room temperature reactions of XeF2 with phenyl substituted alcohols

Benzyl alkohol and its analogues with a non-activated benzene ring are transformed to fluoromethoxy derivatives by reaction with XeF₂. The same reaction with diphenyl methanol gives di diphenylmethylether, while 2-phenyl-2-propanol transforms to 2,4-diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene.
