The addition of about 3 wtpercent of sulfate ion to SnO2 caused the enhancement in the acid strength from H0=+3.3 to ca. -8.2.The catalytic activity of SnO2+SO42- for the isomerisation of cyclopropane at 100 deg C was found to be higher than 100 times that of simple SnO2 for the same reaction at 300 deg C.The effect of sulfate ion was remarkable also for dehydration of 2-butanol.
