The partial oxidation of light alkanes (methane, ethane, and propane) has been carried out successfully by applying an O₂-H₂ cell at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. The conversion of alkanes increased in the order of CH₄2H₆ 3H₈. The selectivity to useful oxygenates was the highest in the case of propane. The selectivity to acetone was higher than 65%.
