The thermolysis, pyrolysis and photolysis of thiagermetane , dithiagermolane and thiagermetane dioxide have been studied.Thiagermetane and dithiagermolane decompose leading to various new germylated heterocycles: , and probably proceed by two competitive mechanisms which involve the transient species germaethene , germathione , thiagermirane and thiadigermetane .Pyrolysis of thiagermetane dioxide also involves germaethene and probably a new doubly-bonded germanium species, the germasulfene (by mass spectroscopy), which finally gives germoxanes (Me2GeO)_n (n = 3,4).
