With the CAS registry number 10038-98-9, it is also can be called as Germanium chloride and Tetrachlorogermane. Its EINECS registry number is 233-116-7. This chemical's molecular formula is Cl4Ge and molecular weight is 214.45. And it belongs to the product category of Inorganics. Germanium tetrachloride is a colourless, fuming liquid with a peculiar, acidic odour. It is used as an intermediate in the production of purified germanium metal.

Preparation of Germanium tetrachloride: This chemical can be prepared by Germanium with Cl2. This reaction needs rectification and condensation.

Ge + 2Cl2 → GeCl4
