Cyclic voltammetry on [RhL4]+ (L = triisopropylphosphite) in 1,2-dimethoxyethane has shown that the complex undergoes a two-electron reduction to [RhL4]−, which is reoxidized to [RhL4]+ in two separate one-electron steps. The intermediate d9 species [RhL4] is a long-lived species to which a square-planar geometry has been assigned on the basis of the electronic and ESR spectra.
