A nonsolvolytic (solid-state) reaction between aspirin and homatropine (cas 114173-36-3), yielding acetylhomatropine and free salicylic acid, is reported. A GC assay for homatropine is described. In the presence of excess aspirin, the kinetics are pseudo first order with respect to homatropine. The apparent heat of activation is estimated and a possible mechanism of the reaction is discussed.
