Interaction of protoveratrine A and B with the uptake of 1-metaraminol by the heart in vitro

The effect of protoveratrines A and B (PA and PB) on the uptake of a model amine, levo-metaraminol (1-MA) by rabbit heart in vitro was investigated.PA is a good inhibitor of 1-MA uptake acting by an uncompetitive mechanism. PB has no detectable effect of the uptake in ordinary conditions, but becomes active when the heart slices are incubated in a calcium-free medium.
