No differences in the concn. of other glycolytic metabolites were obsd. The concn. of SH was increased. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Wistar male rats (170-200 g) given carbostimulin (100 mg NaHCO3, 10 mg MgSO4, 0.2 mg MnSO4, 0.2 mg ZnSO4, and 10 mg Na citrate per 100 g/day) for ￡180 days showed increased rates of oxidative phosphorylation by liver mitochondria, higher levels of liver lactic [50-21-5] and pyruvic [127-17-3] acids, and lower levels of liver glutamine [56-85-9] and NH3 compared to unsupplemented controls. Carbostimulin decreased blood free amino acid concn., mostly at the expense of essential amino acids. It did not affect blood pH, but increased blood HCO3-, CO2, and H2CO3 levels. Also, carbostimulin markedly increased antibody formation in response to immunization against tetanus. .
