Pise, Pisa 56100, Italy). Int. J. Cosmet. Sci., 5(5), 201-13 (French) 1983. CODEN: IJCMDW. ISSN: 0142-5463. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) Section cross-reference(s): 4 The effect of UV-A filters, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone [131-57-7], 2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)-2H-benzotriazole [2440-22-4], di-Na 4,4'-distyryl-2,2'-diphenyldisulfonate [27344-41-8], 4-tert-butyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane [70356-09-1], and 4-isopropyldibenzoylmethane [63250-25-9] on the phototoxicity of bergapten [484-20-8] was evaluated. The dibenzoylmethane derivs. inhibited the toxicity to a greater extent than the other filters. The effect was greater when these compds. were administered with either bergamot oil or with a perfume than when administered in an alc. soln. The results confirm the conclusions of a recent study that not only the phototoxicity but also the carcinogenic effect of bergapten can be decreased by UV-A filters. .

NCL: 524043000. APPLICATION: US 82-364302 1 Apr 1982. PRIORITY: US 78-964910 30 Nov 1978. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 42 (Coatings, Inks, and Related Products) Silicone compns. giving tough, abrasive-resistant coatings are prepd. by hydrolyzing trialkoxyhydrocarbylsilanes in aq. dispersions of colloidal SiO2 and adding thickeners and light stabilizers to the products (pH 7.1-7.8). Thus, a coating compn. was prepd. by adding 20.0 parts aq. colloidal silica (Ludox LS, pH 8.2, av. particle size 12 mm) over 30 min to 0.04 part AcOH in 24.4 parts (MeO)3SiMe [1185-55-3] at 20-60°; allowing the mixt. to stand for 16 h; adding hydroxypropyl cellulose [9004-64-2] (Klucel H) (1% soln. in 5% aq. iso-PrOH) 15.6, iso-PrOH 10.4, diacetone alc. 9.9, and iso-BuOH 19.3 parts; and mixing 1585 g this soln. with 12.7 g 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone [131-56-6]. This compn. was coated on primed Lexan polycarbonate and cured 1 h at 120°, giving a film with crosshatch adhesion adequate and Taber abrasion resistance (haze increase, 500 revolutions, 500 g) 8.15%. .
