  • The Comparison of the Nutrition of Vegetables and Fruits
  • Many people believe that the nutrition of fruits and vegetables is very close, so they think that if they eat fruits instead of vegetables, it not only can provide them with enough nutrition, but can also help them lose weight. As a result, more and more women begin to eat fruits for breakfast and supper. However, can fruits completely replace the effects of vegetables? Is there no difference between the nutrition of vegetables and fruits?

According to the introduction of experts, there are some differences between the nutrition of fruits and vegetables. Nutrition experts suggest people should take in a certain amount of vegetables every day, because vegetables have the following functions:

Firstly, most vegetables contain six categories of nutrients needed by human body every day. The main nutrients in vegetables are vitamins, including vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, and so on. At the same time, besides these nutrients, vegetables also contain some bioactive substances, such as: lycopene, chlorophyll, alkaloids, polyphenols, and so on. These substances can remove the toxins inside the body, delay aging process, as well as prevent cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Secondly, the pH value of human body is normally neutral or slightly acidic, which can maintain human activities in the best condition. Vegetables contain a large number of mineral substances such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphor and iron, all of which are alkaline elements. These alkaline elements can regulate the acid-base of the body. However, compared with vegetables, fruits contain much less mineral elements.

Thirdly, vegetables also have certain dietary therapy function. For example, vegetables such as broccoli and tomato are rich in antioxidants, so they can prevent cancer; Cucumber, white gourd, radish and green beans are low in calorie, so they can help lose weight; Diabetes patients can eat more pumpkin and bitter gourd, which can alleviate the disease; Some vegetables with special aroma (such as celery) can bring the high blood pressure down.

Fourthly, vegetables not only contain much more dietary fibers than fruits, more importantly, these dietary fibers are insoluble fibers, which can promote bowel movement and clear away the toxic substances accumulated in the intestinal tract, so as to effectively prevent and treat constipation, hemorrhoids and colon cancer. However, eating fruits is unable to reach such an effect. This is because fruits mainly contain soluble fiber--pectin, which is not only difficult to be absorbed by the body, but also may slow down the speed of gastric emptying.

As a result, the nutrition of vegetables is relatively rich than fruits. Fruits of course can not replace vegetables. Vice versa, vegetables can not replace fruits as well, because fruits also have their unique functions. As a result, you should keep a balanced diet in daily life, so that it will be beneficial to your health.
