4-O-Acetyl-2,3-dideoxy-3-tetrabromophthalimido-D-threo-pentopyranosyl chloride (4) was synthesized from the mixture 1-3 by treatment with hydrogen chloride in acetic acid.The structure is confirmed by reaction of 4 to give 4-O-acetyl-3-tetrabromophthalimido-1,2,3-trideoxy-D-threo-pent-1-eno-pyranose (5) and 4-O-acetyl-2,3-dideoxy-3-tetrabromophthalimido-1-<9-(6-phenylamino-2-methylpurinyl)>-β-D-threo-pentopyranose (6).
