A new lignan, spithuriferic acid has been prepared from isopicropodophyllone. Its stereochemistry has been established on the basis of spectral, chemical and molecular modelling findings and compared to that of its 8' epimer thuriferic acid, isolated from the Juniperus thurifera leaves.
