The human monocytic THP-1 cells (ATCC No. TIB-202) were
grown in RPMI-1640 medium supplemented with 10% FBS, 4.5 g/
L glucose, 10 mM HEPES, 1.0 mM sodium pyruvate, penicillin
(100 U/mL), streptomycin (0.1 mg/mL), amphotericin B (0.25 g/
mL), and -glutamine (2 mM) at 37 °C in humidified 5% CO2. To pre-
pare conditioned medium for the differentiation of THP-1 cells into
macrophages, THP-1 cells (1–2 Â 107 cells/mL) in RPMI-1640 med-
ium supplemented with 10% FBS were treated with 200 ng/mL phor-
bol myristate acetate (PMA, Sigma, USA) for 24 h at 37 °C in
humidified 5% CO2, washed three times with PBS, and incubated

say, THP-1 cells were stimulated with the conditioned medium in a
96-well plate for 72 h to differentiate into macrophages. The differ-
