The title compounds are obtained by N-bromosuccinimide oxidation of protected didehydroaminoacids.Additions of the imino group are readily performed with borohydride, Grignard reagents or other nucleophiles.Heterocyclic aminoacids are available by subsequent displacement of bromine.
