Optically Active Organoiron Complexes in Synthesis. An Enantioface Selective 3-Hydroxypropionate-2,3-Dication Equivalent

The use of organoiron complexes 8 and 9 as chiral 3-hydroxypropionate-2,3-dication equivalents is illustrated by a sequence of transformations involving successive addition of nucleophiles to these cations, followed by redox promoted carboxylation to give 2R,3S-methyl 3-hydroxypentanoate and ent-sitophilate.
