A direct and versatile synthesis of 5-(2-di-n-propylamino-ethyl)-7-methoxyindole

The Pummerer intermediate generated from 10 with TFAA was trapped intermolecularly in the presence of Lewis acid by the indoline 2 at position 5. Sequential treatment of the resulted compound 3 with Ra-Ni, LiAlH₄ and active MnO₂ gave compound 6 in high overall yield.
