Thermolysis of cis-[PtCl2{Ph2PNHP(O)Ph2-P}2] (1) in refluxing xylene gives cis-[PtCl2{Ph2POP (Ph)2NPPh2-P,P′}] (2) containing the first example of an MNOP3 metallacycle. Compound 2 has been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy (1H, 31P-{1H} and 195Pt-{1H}), IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The related palladium(II) complex cis-[PdCl2{Ph2POP(Ph)2NPPh 2-P,P′}] (3) was similarly prepared.
