Thermolysis of cis-[PtCl₂{Ph₂PNHP(O)Ph₂-P}₂] (1) in refluxing xylene gives cis-[PtCl₂{Ph₂POP (Ph)₂NPPh₂-P,P′}] (2) containing the first example of an MNOP₃ metallacycle. Compound 2 has been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy (¹H, ³¹P-{¹H} and ¹⁹⁵Pt-{¹H}), IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The related palladium(II) complex cis-[PdCl₂{Ph₂POP(Ph)₂NPPh ₂-P,P′}] (3) was similarly prepared.
