The synthesis of N¹-[(1S,3R)-3-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopent-1-yl]inosine (11) via a cyclocondensation route is reported. Regioselective bisphosphorylation of the primary 5'-hydroxyl groups leads to a carbocyclic, inosine analogue of seco adenosine 5'-diphosphate ribose(3).
