Reactions of sodium undecahydro-5,6-dicarba-nido-decaborate(1-) (NaC2B8H11) with n> (n = 2, L = P(CH3)2Ph, As(CH3)2Ph; n = 3, L = PPh3) afforded the 18e^- Ir^III complexes , while reaction with produced the 16e^- Rh^I complexes (L = PPh3, P(p-tolyl)3) and the 18e^- Rh^I complexes (L = As(CH3)2Ph, P(CH3)2Ph, P(CH3)3, As(CH3)3, Sb(CH3)3, PEt3).In solution, dissociates triethylphosphine reversibly to form , which partially isomerizes to upon standing.The standard enthalpy and entropy of formation of from are -3.1 +/- 0.1 kcal mol^-1 and -10.5 +/- 0.4 eu, respectively.The reaction of NaC2B8H11 with yielded , in which a PPh3 ligand has displaced a terminal B-H hydrogen atom of the carborane ligand.
