The electrophilic methylene complex (η5-C5H5)(Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2)Ru=CH2+ (1) has been characterized by 13C and variable-temperature 1H NMR spectroscopy and exhibits a vertical orientation of the methylene group with a barrier for rotation about the ruthenium-carbon double bond of 10.9 kcal/mol.
