Co-condensation of molybdenum atoms with spiro<2.4>hepta-4,6-diene gives the compound .Treatment of with iodine gives the tetraiodo-derivative (2).The tetrabromo- and tetrachloro-analogues of (2) are similarly prepared.The iodo-groups of (2) can be exchanged with the SPh radical to give which reacts with hydrogen chloride to form the compound (4).Abstraction of a halide ion from (4) gives PF6.Complex (2) reacts with dimethylamine to give 2.
