o-N,N-Dimethylaminobenzyl-lithium reacted with NiCl2(PR3)2 to give cyclonickelated compounds; hexafluorobut-2-yne was inserted into their Ni-C bonds giving rise to a seven-membered organometallic ring when the phosphine was PMe3, whereas in the case of PEt3 a dimeric compound was obtained.
