(2R,5R)-5-[(4-Methoxybenzyl)oxy]hept-6-en-2-ol (5). To a soln. of 19 (0.420 g, 1 mmol) in dry THF
(20 ml) at 08 was added LAH (0.152 g, 4.0 mmol), and the mixture was stirred for 3 h. Excess of LAH was
removed by addition of a sat. Na2SO4 soln. (3 ml). The solid formed was filtered through Celite pad,
washed with AcOEt, and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo and purified by CC (SiO2; 20% AcOEt/
hexane) to afford 5 (0.220 g, 0.88 mmol, 88%). Colorless liquid. [a]2D5 ¼ þ19.6 (c ¼ 1.1, CHCl3). IR
