Photolytically produced 1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl radicals were found to form hydrogen in the presence of colloidal platinum, gold, silver, and cadmium.Conductivity measurements showed that electrons stored on the colloidal particles are intermediates to H2 formation.A 1.25 X 1E-4 M silver solution was found to store electrons up to more than 0.3 C/L during illumination.
