The complexes were synthesized using a simple
method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of
the studied complexes reveals a trigonal bipyramidal
coordination of the metal(II) environments. These com-
plexes present N–H. . .Cl, C–H...Cl and C–H...O inter-
actions in the crystal packing. The theoretical and
experimental bond lengths and angles are in good
agreement with each other. Theoretically calculated
frontier molecular orbitals (HOMO-LUMO) of both
complexes suggest intermolecular charge transfer and
delocalization of electron density within the molecule.
The accuracy of the results also predicts that the DFT
studies performed at bvp86/6-31G (p, d) level is an
appropriate quantum chemical method for reproducing
efficiently the experimental structures.
