Five 2,3,5 trien-1 ols, have been prepared by three different ways.Their reaction with t-butyl peroxide in the presence of catalytic amounts of vanadyl acetylacetonate yields mainly the cyclopentenones 2.This sequence provides a new route to methylenomycine B 3.
