(Pivaloyloxy)methyl (Pom) 6α-fluoropenicillanate (2) was prepared in 15percent yield from the readily available (pyvaloyloxy)methyl 6-diazopenicillanate (1) and pyridinium poly(hydrogen fluoride).Its structure was established by 1H, 13C, and 19F n.m.r. spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.A new synthesis of Pom 6β-aminopenicillanate is described.
