that in STR (Zhang et al. 2010), and the productivity
in RPBR was 3.04-fold higher than the previous
report (9.2 mM/h) (Xue et al. 2013a). The further
scale-up study of R-MA production in series and
parallel RPBRs showed that two kinds of reactor
structures had no significant effect on the yield
and ee.

could remain above 78% after 50 batches with high-
optical purity (ee499%) in RPBP, which was higher
than 61.8% after 30 batches for the immobilized cells
and 8.79% after 10 reuse cycles for the free cells in a

In summary, immobilized cells catalyzed enantio-
selective resolution of R,S-MN for the efficient
production of R-MA in RPBR was first successfully
performed in this study. The immobilized cells
exhibited a strict enantiospecificity for the R,S-MN
during the hydrolysis at different substrate concen-
tration. The RPBR could lead to a significant
increase in the immobilized cells stability with the
relative activity of above 78% after 50 batches
reaction, and it is easy to be applied in the large-
scale production with high efficiency and low cost.
The results obtained in this study could contribute to
the commercial production of R-MA with high
efficiency from R,S-MN using immobilized cells
in RPBR.
