Dehydrogenation of 9,10-bis(4,5-diphenyl)-imidazol-2-yl)-anthracene furnishes the title compound. 1,4-Bis- [4,5-bis(p-methoxyphenyl-imidazol-2-ylidene)]-1,4-cyclohexadiene doesn't show any thermochromism.
