Primary Amines

Primary amines (RNH2) are more nucleophilic than secondary amines due to the presence of an additional hydrogen atom on the nitrogen, making them better nucleophiles. In acetonitrile, primary amines can undergo nucleophilic substitution reactions with various electrophiles. For example, they can react with alkyl halides to form secondary amines or with acyl halides to form amides. The reactivity of primary amines in acetonitrile is also influenced by steric hindrance. Bulkier primary amines may have reduced reactivity compared to less bulky ones.
