Preparation of Vinyl bromide: it can be prepared by 1,2-dibromo-ethane. This reaction will need reagent KOH and solvent ethanol. The yield is about 56% by heating.

Uses of Vinyl bromide: this chemical is used to manufacture bromopolymers and mainly polyvinyl bromide. Further it is used as an alkylation agent. In addition, it can be used to get 1,1,2-tribromo-ethane. This reaction will need reagent Br₂ and solvent CHCl₃. The reaction time is 12 hours at reaction temperature of 20 °C. The yield is about 87%.
