Organotin

Organotin compounds are chemical compounds based on tin (Sn) bonded to organic groups. These compounds are characterized by one or more tin-carbon bonds and are widely used in industrial and agricultural applications due to their versatile chemical properties. Common types include mono-, di-, tri-, and tetraorganotin compounds, each differing in the number of organic groups attached to the tin atom. Organotins are utilized as stabilizers in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), as biocides in antifouling paints for ships, and as pesticides and fungicides. However, they are also known for their environmental persistence and toxicity, posing significant risks to aquatic life and human health, leading to stringent regulations and restrictions on their use.
