  • Four Kinds of Indigested Foods for Elderly People
  • Many elderly people attach great importance to nutrition, but because of the decline of digestive function for the elderly people, if they eat too much foods with high nutritional value, it not only will cause indigestion, but may also bring harms on physical health. Generally speaking, elderly people should not eat too much of the following four kinds of food.

    First, tremella
Tremella is not only very nutritious, but also has the effect of nourishing the kidney, moistening the lung, and promoting the secretion of saliva or body fluid. As a result, it is widely welcomed by the old people. However, in clinical practice, there are many elderly people suffering from intestinal obstruction caused by eating fungus improperly. This is because the digestive function of the elderly is relatively poor, while tremella is not easy to be digested. As a result, eating too much tremella at one time will cause intestinal obstruction, with the symptoms as paroxysmal abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, constipation, and so on.

    Second, roe
Roe is a nutrient-rich food, which contains plenty of protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamins and riboflavin, as well as cholesterol. It is a good nourishing agent for human brain and bone marrow. However, the elderly people should eat this kind of food as less as possible. This is because roe contains a large number of cholesterol, which is not beneficial to the elderly people. In addition, roe is very difficult to be digested, so it will easily cause indigestion after eating, resulting in diarrhea.

    Third, sunflower seeds
Although sunflower seeds are very nutritious and delicious, they are not suitable for the elderly people. First of all, because sunflower seeds are rich in fats, and most of these fats are unsaturated fatty acids, so eating too much will consume the choline in the body, which can make the fat metabolism in the body in a disorder. This will lead to the fat deposition in the liver and affect the normal function of liver cells, causing liver dysfunction. What's more, it may also easily lead to connective tissue proliferation, and even induce liver necrosis or cirrhosis.

    Fourth, tofu
Tofu is a common food, which has high nutritional value. However, the elderly people should not eat too much. This is because tofu contains phytic acid and flatulence factors. If people eat too much of it at one time, it will not only hinder the absorption of iron by the body, but can also easily lead to indigestion, abdominal distention, diarrhea and other symptoms.
