  • Food Taboos for Pregnant Women
  • Pregnancy is a critical period both for the pregnant women as well as their babies. As the nutrition of the fetuses is totally depended on their mothers, so what the pregnant women eat will greatly affect the growth and development of their babies. If they eat foods correctly and appropriately, then it can promote the health of their babies. However, if they do not pay attention to their daily diets and eat some foods that are not suitable for them, it may bring serious consequences on their babies, leading to miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, and deformity of the fetuses, and so on. As a result, pregnant women should pay special attention to their daily diets. Following are some suggestions given by the medical experts.

First of all, do not take in too much vitamin A.
If the pregnant women take in too much vitamin A, it can cause premature delivery and make the fetus develop abnormally. As a result, it is enough to take in 400 to 1250 micrograms of vitamin A every day. Pork liver is especially rich in vitamin A, so the pregnant women should not eat too much.

    Secondly, do not drink alcohol.
If the pregnant women drink too much alcohol, it will lead to fetal malformation, and affect the normal intelligent and physical development of the babies. As a result, it is best if the pregnant women can totally keep away from alcohol. If they have to, they should not drink more than two glasses of beer or one glass of grape wine every day.

Thirdly, do not drink too much beverages that contain caffeine.
Too much intake of caffeine may affect the bone growth of the fetuses, which is likely to cause finger or toe deformity, and will also increase problems such as abortion, premature delivery, underweight, and so on. As a result, pregnant women had better avoid drinking caffeinated drinks, or reduce the amount, with not more than two cups of coffee or three cups of strong tea every day.

Fourthly, avoid eating high-sugar or high-fat foods.
Eating too much high-sugar or high-fat foods, such as soft drinks, candy, potato chips, will make the pregnant women overweight, thereby aggravating the condition of gestational diabetes and gestational hypertension. In addition to increasing the opportunity of suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure in the future, it will also bring the pregnant women a lot of difficulty in the delivery.
