  • Some Notices You Should Pay Attention to When Eating Oranges
  • Orange contains plenty of water and various kinds of nutrients, such as vitamin C, citric acid, glucose, and so on, which can meet the basic needs of human body. If you eat oranges properly, it can bring many benefits to your body. Especially for the patients who suffer from chronic hepatitis and high blood pressure, if they eat more oranges, it can promote the detoxicating function of the liver, accelerate the transformation of cholesterol, and prevent atherosclerosis. What's more, eating oranges appropriately can also increase the appetite. However, if you eat oranges in an improper way, it may bring adverse effects to your body. Generally speaking, there are five notices you should pay attention to when eating oranges.

Firstly, do not drink milk when eating orange.
The protein in milk will react with the tartaric acid and vitamin C contained in orange, which not only affects the digestion and absorption, but also may cause abdominal distention, abdominal pain, diarrhea and other symptoms. As a result, it is inappropriate to drink milk one hour before or after you have eaten orange.

Secondly, do not eat orange with radish together.
When the radish enters into human body, it will quickly produce a substance called as "sulfate". After sulfate is metabolized, it will produce an anti-thyroid substance--thiocyanic acid. If you eat orange at this same time, the flavonoids contained in orange will be decomposed in the intestinal tract, and change into hydroxy acid and ferulic acid. These two kinds of substances can enhance the inhibitory effect of thiocyanic acid on the thyroid, which will induce or cause goiter.

Thirdly, do not eat too many oranges every day.
According to the study, eating three oranges every day is enough to meet the daily requirement of vitamin C by the body. Eating too much will result in excessive intake of vitamin C and increase the oxalic acid metabolized in the body, which will further lead to urinary stones and kidney stones. What's more, eating too many oranges is also harmful to the mouth and teeth.

Fourthly, do not eat orange before meals or with an empty stomach.
This is because the organic acids contained in orange will stimulate the mucous membranes of the stomach wall, which is harmful to the health of the body.

Last but not the least, the old people should not eat too many oranges, especially for those suffering from gastrointestinal, kidney, and lung diseases. Otherwise, it will easily lead to abdominal pain, soreness of waist, backache, and other symptoms.
