Difluorocarbene reacts with 1,2,2-trimethylbicyclo<1.1.0>butane to give the product of two bond cleavage, 1,1-difluoro-3,3,4-trimethyl-1,4-pentadiene in 3percent yield.Bicyclo<2.1.0>pentane is even less reactive, yielding 1,1-difluorohexa-1,5-diene in ca. 0.5percent yield.Bicyclo<3.1.0>hexane does not react with difluorocarbene.Theoretical descriptions of these reactions are discussed.
