1-(2-(Benzyloxymethyl)-3-butenyl)-5-ethoxy-2-pyrrolidinones 12 cyclize upon formic acid treatment to indolizinones.The effect of some substituents α to the iminium carbon atom on the diastereoselectivity of the cyclization is discussed.
