1,2-Functionalization of α,β-Epoxycycloalkanones

For 1,2-functionalization, α,β-epoxy cycloalkanones were treated with 2.1 equiv of 2-lithio-2-(trimethylsilyl)-1,3-dithiane to give high yields of trans-2-dithianyl-3-dithianylidene-1-cycloalkanols, which were oxidatively hydrolyzed with an excess of halogenating agents in alcohols to the corresponding acetal esters.
