In conclusion, we have demonstrated a one-pot, efficient
synthesis of 5H-pyrazino[2,3-b]indoles via a rhodium-catalyzed
reaction between 3-diazoindolinimines and 2H-azirines, follow-
ing by treatment with a base. This procedure gave the 5H-
pyrazino[2,3-b]indoles in moderate to excellent yields with a
broad range of functional groups. Moreover, the synthesized
5H-pyrazino[2,3-b]indoles showed strong photoluminescence
in solutions, powders, and films. Designing and synthesizing
new organic compounds based on the 5H-pyrazino[2,3-
b]indole core to improve the performance of hole transporting
material is currently underway.
