Farnesyl Pyrophosphate (FPP) synthetase catalyzed the condensation of geranyl pyrophosphate (GPP) with 4-methyl-4-pentenyl pyrophosphate in the presence of Ni(2+) to give an unexpected product, homofarnesyl pyrophosphate having an exomethylene group, together with Z-homofarnesyl pyrophosphate.
