α-Methylene-β-lactams are prepared by a Peterson olefination reaction. These substrates can be epoxidized with MCPBA to give the title dispiro-epoxy-β-lactams. Under the influence of boron trifluoride, these substrates rearrange to spiro-3-ketolactams.
