The asymmetric synthesis of the α-pentyl succinate fragment of (-)-Actinonin is achived using the chiral ironacetyl S-(+)-<(η⁵-C5H5)-Fe(CO)(PPh3)COCH3> and subsequently converted to (-)-Actinonin in an overall yield of 41percent.
